Emmanouil Grigoriou, MD

Emmanouil Grigoriou, MD, is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon and hip preservation specialist at the Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN. His clinical focus includes:

  • Osteotomies and arthroscopic procedures for children, adolescents and young adults with hip dysplasia including Ganz periacetabular osteotomy (PAO), surgical hip dislocation and hip arthroscopy.

  • Promoting innovative techniques, including perfusion ultrasound, for infantile developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH).

  • Providing comprehensive evaluation and surgical management of complex hip pathology in patients with cerebral palsy, syndromic and neuromuscular disorders.

  • Expertise in Legg-Calve-Perthes disease including minimally-invasive biologic therapies.

Dr. Grigoriou completed a two-year research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania — The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He completed his orthopaedic surgical training at the University at Buffalo followed by two fellowships, in pediatric orthopaedics and scoliosis surgery at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRH), and in child and young adult hip preservation at Boston Children's Hospital — Harvard Medical School.

In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Grigoriou is active in research, education, and leadership. He has authored several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in pediatric hip and spine conditions. He is a member of several multi-center research groups, including the International Perthes Study Group (IPSG) and International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI). He has a strong interest in promoting resident and medical student education and mentorship. Dr. Grigoriou is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) and serves on multiple national committees.
